PREAMBLE: All the driving itineraries through Tulcea County promoted in our application start from the heart of the city (Civic Square) and return to the center (at the cathedral). Details about distances and travel times are presented below. Some of the attractions are open for visitation, while others along the route can simply be admired from a distance or with short detours from the main route. Each person is free to decide based on their own preferences and interests. However, it is good to know that all tourist attractions have their own story to tell, which is why we have included places that are more or less known to the general public in the itinerary. DIRECTIONS AND ORIENTATION: The first part of the route is dedicated to the “triangle of monasteries,” as the Tulceans describe the three extremely important places of worship: Celic-Dere, Saon, and Cocoș. We recommend all three, but if you feel it is too much for the time allocated, then choose the one that resonates with you the most. Right in the center of Niculițel, the Paleo-Christian Basilica awaits you, an attraction not to be missed on this itinerary. You will then arrive in the town of Isaccea, and it is worth making a brief stop to admire the mosque here. Another mosque awaits you in Măcin, serving as another valuable testament to the Ottoman rule era. On your way back to Tulcea, we recommend making a short detour along the southern segment to visit Lake Iacobdeal. The last point of interest along the route is the memorial house “Panait Cerna” in the village of Cerna. You will then continue on County Road 22F back to Tulcea, passing through the villages of Horia - Izvoarele - Nalbant - Cataloi. The landscapes will truly delight you. Consul Hill, located just before Izvoarele on the right side, will impress you with its beauty and height. DISTANCE AND TIMING: 200 km (circular route) / 4 hours of actual driving time and approximately 9-10 hours with visits, breaks, and possibly lunch. HORECA OFFERINGS: The locations along the route where you can have a meal or a drink that we can recommend are: Casa Varvara in Somova, Divad Relax Complex in Isaccea, Istanbul Shawarma in Măcin, Dobrogean Wine Cellar (at the exit of Măcin), and Popasul Laura (at the intersection of the main road with the one towards Greci). You can find them on Google Maps along with many other restaurants on the route.
